Bayazid Bostami Shrine

Perched on a hillock in Nasirabad, Chattogram, the Bayazid Bostami Shrine is one of the city's most significant spiritual and cultural landmarks. The shrine complex includes the tomb attributed to the renowned Persian Sufi saint Bayazid Bostami, an old three-domed mosque and a historic pond. The complex was documented in 1831, while the mosque is traditionally associated with the Mughal period.

The shrine is particularly famous for the Bostami turtles, the rare black soft-shell turtles that inhabit its pond. These turtles, locally known as mazari, have become an inseparable part of the site's cultural heritage and are protected as a distinctive feature of the shrine.
